He specialises in psychology, philosophy and Scottish literature, but also deals with titles across the board. He also has on display a selection of interesting, valuable and out-of- print books.

The chosen charity for the day is Dyslexia Scotland.

The centre will open at 10am and Valuations will start from 10.30am and be available until 3pm.

Alyth Musical Society’s annual show is going to be ‘Whisky Galore: A Musical’, opening for a five-night run on Tuesday, April 18, in Alyth Town Hall.

Based on the book by Compton MacKenzie, the musical version by Shona McKee and Ian Hammond Brown was first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe before PFT did its own hugely popular production in 2009 and 2011.

With the rights released for amateur productions, Alyth Musical Society has been rehearsing since September last year under the guidance of producer, Gemma Pryde and musical director, Colin Grant.

Everyone performing comes from east Perthshire. The cast varies in age from nine to 71, with a number of children from Alyth Primary also involved.

The story is about the SS Politician, a boat laden with 50,000 cases of whisky that actually ran aground in the Western Isles during World War Two.

In the comic tale the whole village turns out to see what can be done with the valuable cargo...

For Alyth Musical Society, what’s really put wind in their sails was that Pitlochry Theatre has lent props and bits of set from their production.

“We’ve been loaned boxes and bottles and all sorts that will boost what we have to offer,” explained Dot Oudney who, as well as taking part, is helping publicise the show.

“The people at the theatre in Pitlochry have been very helpful.”

Dot hopes Society members’ efforts will sell a lot of tickets.

She added: “Everyone has worked really, really, hard, especially the children.

“It has been a lot of fun rehearsing and we hope to see everybody from Alyth come and watch us do it for real.”

Tickets, priced £11 and £10, for the 7.30pm show can be purchased from the Cafe in the Square (Open 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm, Monday to Saturday).
