Time well spent for Perth’s Iconic show
It had been a very long wait from receiving the tickets for Iconic and sitting in the Perth Concert Hall facing a black curtain waiting for this much anticipated show to start.
Was the wait worth it? – oh, too right it was. Steve Steinman, the brains behind Vampires Rock and Ghost Train - two hugely successful rock music shows - developed this one around a cinema in the future.
Musically the show ranges from The Rocky Horror Show to Bond themes, and music by Steelers Wheel to AC/DC. The show in two halves had incredible stand out performances from Penny Johns, Halley Russell and John Evans.
Across a range of styles they showed tremendous versatility and stunning interpretation of the songs.
Personal favourites stand out as Writings on the Wall, Holding out for a Hero, Don’t Want To Miss a Thing and a breath-taking duet on Who Wants to Live Forever.
While the first half was superb the second half really stepped up a gear climaxing with a powerful Bat Out of Hell.
As Steve said while not in a film few songs can be more Iconic than that one.
The encore was a cracking version of legends song – you need to go to see and hear it.
As if the performance of the show wasn’t enough Perth Concert Hall began sales for Vampires Rock Ghost Train in February 2018. The Train is returning, and the tickets are already bought – in fact we got the first ones.
Tonight’s performance was only the 9th of the show and it is a “living” show with tweaks and changes as it matures.
It promises to be a monster just like its Vampire Rocks cousin.
It was good to see it as an infant because when it becomes a teenager it will be massive. ALEX IRELAND
