Measures toimprove roadsafety tobegin nextweek

-

Work to improve safety measures in Coupar Angus are set to being next week.

The work which will begin on Monday, April 24, comes after the death of two-yearold Harlow Edwards in October last year.

Tayside Contracts has installed new signs and road markings on the A94 through the town, and the work next week will see red anti-skid markings, widened footways, and a 20mph speed limit zone installed.

Sara Edwards, Harlow’s mother, has been among those helping to plan the improvements on the road around Larghan Park.

She said: “From what we have seen, drivers on Forfar Road accelerate long before they reach the 60mph limit.

“We need physical traffic calming measures to make it impossible for people to drive at speed. What we need is urgent action and I’m sure you all understand why we feel this way.”

Councillor John Kellas, Perth and Kinross Council’s enterprise and infrastructure committee convener, said: “There was considerable and very positive input from the community, as well as council officers and the police.”
