JD Fergusson piece could go for £60,000

-

The annual sale of art from Scotland in Edinburgh by Bonhams could see a painting by celebrated artist, Scottish colourist John Duncan Fergusson, fetch between £40,000 to £60,000.

The Scottish Sale will take place at over Wednesday and Thursday next week at the saleroom at 22 Queen Street.

The JD Fergusson picture,‘Paris Plage’, was painted in 1902 and depicts a street in Le Touquet, the coastal resort in northern France.

The beach was favoured as a weekend retreat by the artist when he was based in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.

The signed, titled and dated oil measures just 26cm by 21cm, but bidders at the sale could see the privately owned painting sold for as much as £60,000.

Perth’s Fergusson Gallery holds a fantastic selection of more than 5000 works of art by the painter and sculptor covering every period in his life.
