Torch-lit hill parade to mark heritage year
Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust is looking forward to launching its Archaeology Year this weekend.
Revellers can enjoy a torch-lit procession up Moncrieffe Hill on Saturday.
The walk through an illuminated wood will be led by the trust’s patron, folk legend Dougie Maclean.
The night will also include the sounds of a prehistoric horn at the top of the hill, and virtual reality reconstructions by a team of archaeologists at the University of St Andrews to fully experience Iron Age Perthshire.
Perth and Kinross’ year of archaeology is part of VisitScotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017.
The official launch event this weekend will start a series of activities, including a month-long archaeological dig at Moncrieffe Hill of the Moredun Top hillfort, starting on Tuesday, April 25.
There will be other archaeological excavations across the region, including at the Cateran Trail, the Roman Cask Ridge, and the Pictish longhouse at Lair, Glenshee.
The torchlight parade at Moncrieffe Hill in Craigie will begin at 7.45pm, with the walk to the top from taking around 45 minutes. The event is free, but booking is essential.
Bookings can be taken on www.woodlandtrust.org. uk/get-involved/events/22april-2017-iron-agemoncrieffe-hill/.
