Blairgowrie go for glory at Murrayfield
Blairgowrie RFC are preparing for the biggest game in the club’s history this weekend as they travel to Murrayfield to play Portobello in the BT National Bowl final on Saturday.
Head coach Craig Ormiston is taking it all in his stride, however.
The experienced coach, who is based in Wolfhill, has enjoyed an impressive first season at the club, starting with the team winning their annual tens tournament in August last year and culminating this weekend with their match at the home of Scottish rugby.
Craig said: “We’ve a new coaching team that’s come in this season with different ideas and ways of playing and we’ve got the guys going.
“They have all worked really hard this year and are doing really well, they’ve had a great season.
“This was always going to be a development season to be honest. When new coaches come on it can take a while to settle in but they have worked really hard and it’s paying off.
“We’re all delighted to be going to Murrayfield and playing on the big pitch.
“It is such a great opportunity and who would have thought we’d be here now after last season?”
Without being drawn too much on tactics for the big game on Saturday, Craig said: “It’s an expansive game we’re playing now and quite a physical game and the players have all bought into it and it’s coming together nicely.
“The most important thing is that they are enjoying their rugby again.
“It’s been a fantastic season so far and probably one of the best I have enjoyed in all the years I have been involved in rugby.
“The support that they are getting from the local community is amazing too.”
