Firm gives vacant store new lease of life
Jobs boost for town
The new development has spilt the opinion of Aberfeldy residents Work is in full swing to get a major new store ready to open in Aberfeldy.
Discount retailer ‘tofs’ – previously known as the Original Factory Shop – plans to welcome the first shoppers in the door at 9am on Saturday.
The new outlet is housed in the large premises in the town square, vacated three years ago by the Coop when it built new premises.
A spokesperson for the firm told locals that the newly kitted-out 4413 sq ft retail space will create 14 jobs and will add a “unique offering” to the town’s shopping scene.
The chainstore was established in 1969 and until recently went under the name, The Original Factory Shop. It already has outlets in Perth and Blairgowrie.
Traditionalists have raised an eyebrow at the retailer’s new branding with the ‘tofs’ name appearing very brightly in the centre of the town’s conservation area.
Aberfeldy Community Council expects members of the public to wish to discuss signage at its meeting on May 3.
The discount store will provide fashion and footwear, beauty, homewares and everyday essentials.
Area manager Lisa Clark said: “We’re really excited about the opening of our new store in Aberfeldy and are happy to be part of the town’s development by creating new jobs within the local community.
“We can’t wait to deliver our promise of big brands at bargain prices to customers. The team have been working really hard to ensure the new store looks outstanding, enabling us to give customers a great shopping experience.”
When the store opens on Saturday, there will be games and competition prizes with a balloon artist keeping children entertained.
