Odds on One for Arthur to draw in race crowds

-

An international photographer drops in on the Highland Perthshire Photography Group (HPPG) in Aberfeldy on May 8 to share secrets about extreme long exposures used to capture night skies.

In a talk called ‘A Night With The Stars’, Dundee-based Scottish photographer Shahbaz Majeed will explain the process of shooting this type of slow timed image and what he does differently to get the perfect shot.

He will also share examples of his commercial and aerial work as well as some of his latest digital pictures. Expect fabulous images of the Northern Lights, clouds and starry skies.

Among his most recent achievements was being commended as a top 50 finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards 2016.

The evening with HPPG - which is open to anyone else who wishes to come along - will start at 7pm in the Birks Cinema, Aberfeldy.

Non-members attending are asked to pay £4. Perth Racecourse will be the place to be this week as the season opener - part of three days of events - takes place from tomorrow.

The friendly course will host the famous Perth Festival and also a special guest - One for Arthur - for a victory lap after his impressive finish at this month’s Grand National.

On the back of his historic win, One For Arthur will take a lap of honour in the parade ring at 1.25pm on the first day of the festival in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF).

One for Arthur’s jockey, Derek Fox, was fortunate to recover from a broken wrist and collarbone injury thanks to the fund which set up the Jack Berry House rehabilitation facility.

The injuries were suffered just a month before the Aintree win.

Hazel Peplinksi, chief executive at Perth Racecourse said: “This year’s Grand National win was the most impressive I have ever seen - and I am not being biased because the winner is Scottish!

“I can’t think of a better way to kick off our season than to have the honour of One For Arthur gracing our parade ring. Interest in this parade from all local equestrians has been phenomenal; One For Arthur has touched everyone in the Perthshire area and we are all so proud of what he achieved at Aintree.

“He is guaranteed a massive reception on Wednesday on the opening day of the Perth Festival, and we look forward to welcoming the whole team.”

In honour of the extraordinary win, Perth Racecourse sponsor Edinburgh Gin will also unveil its bespoke One For Arthur Gin and Fizz bar at the Perth Festival.

Ticket sales for Perth Racecourse’s 2017 season are also going strong, with already a 25 per cent increase in advance sales compared to last year.

Hazel continued: “Early indications are that our prize-money and going

Northern Lights over Abernyte by Shahbaz Majeed Racing returns with the Perth Festival this week conditions shall attract strong support from owners and trainers next week, and we are excited about getting started after a power of work over the winter by our passionate team.”

Tomorrow’s race card gets under way at 2pm, with the last being run at 5.10pm.
