Career Ready grads rolled out in Perth

Perth Concert Hall saw the largest ever graduation ceremony from the Career Ready programme.

Career Ready gives students from lower income families the confidence, skills and networks to achieve their potential.

It supports secondary school pupils get into employment by linking employers with schools in order to open up the world of work to young people.

Through volunteeri­ng, employers get a rewarding opportunit­y to develop their own presenting, coaching and management skills, and find the next generation of talented employees.

More than 380 pupils from eight local authoritie­s across Scotland completed the Career Ready programme and celebrated at the ceremony in Perth on Wednesday, April 19.

The 15-18-year-old students have been bridging the gap between education and work by gaining real experience­s trhough mentoring, internship­s, masterclas­ses and workplace vists.

All of the students on the career programme also carried out a four week paid internship.

Speaking on the day, Scottish Governemtn Education Secretary John Swinney – also the MSP for Perthshire North – said: “The Career Ready programme provides fantastic opportunit­ies for young people to learn new skills and have workplace experience which will support them in their career aspiration­s - in line with our developing the young workforce aims.

“I congratula­te all of today’s graduates on their achievemen­t and wish them every success in their future careers.”
