Gaelic talent on show at Crieff gathering
Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff is all set for a day celebrating Gaelic language and culture on Saturday, May 27.
Latha Gàidhlig will feature bilingual storytelling, Gaelic Bookbug, adult language classes, Gaelic Wikipedia workshops, music, film, stepdancing and a market place with stands from Gaelic organisations and local groups.
Gaelic Supergroup Dàimh will join in the celebration as part of their 2017 summer tour providing an opportunity to sing or play along with the band in a workshop before a free afternoon concert in the Tryst at the campus.
Dàimh’s most recent accolade saw Ellen MacDonald awarded Gaelic Singer of the Year at the end of 2016. This was before the band jetted off to set audiences alight during their sell-out tour of the Western US Summer 2017 sees Dàimh keeping that momentum going with their annual Scottish tour covering the length and breadth of the country.
The timetable for the language day is:
10.00-10.30: Bookbug – a special session featuring Gaelic songs, rhymes and stories for early years;
10.30 and 13.30: Beginners Gaelic classes for adults. 10.30 and 13.30: Gaelic Wikipedia; 11am and 2pm: Dannsa Ceum – Scottish Stepdancing and The Real Goldilocks Story – a modern bilingual Gaelic take on this traditional story. Suitable for 4-8 years; noon to 1pm: Gaelic Song and Music workshop with Dàimh – If you play an instrument feel free to bring it along. 2-3pm: Big Gaelic Beasties – learn about some of the greatest Big Beasties of Gaelic storytelling lore, the Water Horse, the Urisk, King of the Otters and more. Suitable for P4 age group. 3-6pm:Afternoon concert featuring Dàimh, Glè and more.
