Gearing up for release of new solo album

- Melanie Bonn

You don’t mark an album launch like in the old days.

Now tracks come out individually to buy online, and its more of a drip feed than a big event.

So Justin Currie, former Del Amitri vocalist, bassist and songwriter tells the PA. He’s got a fourth solo album, ‘This is My Kingdom’ being imminently released, “but the songs kind of escape from a cage, or ooze out individually on new music platforms, so it’s not like a sealed record any more.”

Justin is appearing with his road band, the Pallbearers, on Friday May 26 in Perth Concert Hall. As the cheery name of his associates suggests, his outlook hasn’t tangibly lightened with age. Justin Currie

After 22 years toiling in the moderately successful pop/ rock outfit Del Amitri, in 2003 Glaswegian Justin decided to go it alone.

The first solo work was varied, the second pitched at pop/rock, the third saluted Americana.

“The latest one, is varied like the first. But I’d say its only fairly miserable, there’s quite a bit of rock thrown in too.”

He explained that This is My Kingdom brings together songs which share a common theme of the sea.

“A couple of years ago I was doing something for the Scottish Maritime Museum at Irvine, I wrote some songs specially for it and this sea theme lives on.”

Justin embarks on a UK tour in October, but his fans can see him in Perth for PFA on Friday, May 26 at 8pm.
