Coupar Angus

Abbey Church The communion service on Sunday of last week was conducted by Rev Andy Graham and the reading was by Bob Farquharson, from Luke chapter 24, verses 13-35. Following tradition the introit As We Gathered was sung by the kirk session. In his all-age address, Rev Graham showed the congregation a number of pictures which could all be seen to be different objects depending on which way they were viewed. He made the point that people often don’t see things as they are. The Bible reading was the story of two disciples on the road to Emmaus just after the crucifixion of Jesus. In his sermon, Rev Graham made the point that they were miserable and had lost hope. When they were joined by Jesus they didn’t recognise him. It wasn’t until later when he ate with them and took bread, gave thanks and broke it that they realised that it was their Lord. They were then full of hope for the future as they realised Jesus was still with them. People can share that hope if they look for Jesus in their lives. The sacrament of communion was then celebrated. Musical offerings by Austin Wilkie were Sarabande in E minor by J Matheson, Prelude in G minor from Twelve Little Preludes by JS Bach, and Thanksgiving hymn and Trumpet Voluntary by J Clarke. A retiring offering was taken for the PKAVs charity. The prayer group will meet in the Abbey at 2pm on Wednesday of this week and Bible study will continue in the evening at 7.15pm. All welcome.
