Do you want to make podcast of Solas fest?

- Rachel Clark

This year’s Solas Festival are looking for young people to create podcasts of the event.

The three-day festival at The Bield in Blackruthven – near Tibbermore – runs from Friday, June 23 until Sunday, June 25, and is a celebration of music, art, literature, the spoken word and performance, and won Best Cultural Event 2016 at the annual Scottish Thistle Awards.

The festival’s organisers are now looking for young people between the ages of 16 and 25 with an interest in arts and minority Scottish languages to document the festival by creating podcasts, which can then be shared with the rest of the world.

Lauded folk trio Lau top the bill for what has been described as the showcase’s largest programme of events to date.

They will be joined by Mary Ann Kennedy, Radio One favourites WHITE and Mercury Prize-nominated C Duncan – a former student at Glenalmond College.

Booker Prize-winning novelist James Kelman, Green MSP Andy Wightman, Scotland’s leading playwright David Greig and recently-appointed UNESCO chair Professor Alison Phipps lead a series of talks, debates and readings.

A new focus on performance, bringing more dance and theatre to the festival, will be headlined by the expressive Claire Cunningham.

Africa in Motion curate the film programme – a pop-up festival-withina-festival celebrating a diverse range of shorts, feature and documentary films created in Africa.

And Solas organisers are also delighted to announce two major new international collaborative projects, pairing Scottish musicians with artists in Palestine and Ghana.

Those who become podcasters will record the action at the Solas Festival and conduct interviews as the festival showcases minority Scottish languages, including Gaelic, Scots, Shetlandic and Doric.

No experience is needed, as the festival’s manager, who is a professional podcaster, will run a workshop in early June to help teach the podcasters how to use the recording equipment, to help them get ready to podcast this year’s Solas Festival.

Those who want to take part must be available for all three days of the Perthshire festival.

Those interested in becoming Solas Festival podcasters should get in touch with Debs Hahn at debs@solasfestival.co. uk with their name and contact details. Spaces are limited and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Lau Folk trio
