Road Runners enjoy Highland Fling

Endurance and determinat­ion were required from Perth Road Runners competing in the Highland Fling 53mile ultra marathon.

The race route follows the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Tyndrum, through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Brian Galletly finished the tough test in 12:23:18, Barry Campbell in 12:30:19 and Gair McRostie in 12:30:20. Robin Livingston­e completed the line-up in 12:45:35.

Unfortunat­ely, Caroline Ness had to pull out after an impressive 31 miles with an IT band injury.

Meanwhile, club member Kevin Rogers took on his third marathon in three weeks, this time tackling Belfast, completing the race in 3:13:14.

Closer to home, over 20 road runners lined up in a field of 224 runners for Perth Parkrun. Kevin Riddell was second across the line in 17:43, with Lorraine Macpherson first female road runner home in 20:48.

Harriet Shaw gained a new personal best time of 26:18 and there were also milestones for Gillian Edwards and Stuart Fraser who completed their 50th and 100th parkrun respective­ly.

Elsewhere, Laurie Carruthers was the sole green vest at Edinburgh Parkrun and finished in 21:59. Mike Dales and Fiona Manson completed Dalby Forest Parkrun in 22:55 and 23:23 respective­ly. Stewart Reid and Dave Sinclair travelled to Fife for the Norman’s Law Hill Race where they completed the 4.4 mile test and 922ft elevation in 39:02 and 40:56.

Also in Fife, four road runners did the Lost Trails race around the Falkland Estate. Duncan Ryan finished third overall in 39:26, Paul Grace in 44:58, Marlena Nowaczyk in 51:02 and Holly Bryon-Staples in 1:00:10.

Earlier in the week 50 club members were in action at the Kinross PTA 10k road race. The green vests made up a third of the field with Michael McConnell finishing first overall in 34:38 followed by Stuart Robertson in 36:57.

Ronnie Glen finished third male road runner in 40:32 and 10th position overall.

Caroline Jones was first Perth female home and second overall in a time of 40:56, with Claire Douglas second road runner in 43:02 closely followed by Sonjia Crow 43:53.
