Visitor boost as trust marks its first anniversary

-

Culture Perth and Kinross have reported record numbers of visitors in its first year.

The organisation was set up as a charitable trust and covers all creative museums and libraries in Perth and Kinross. Culture PK has now celebrated its first anniversary with a reported increase in visitor numbers, as well as more book lending from libraries in the region.

Numbers have increased by 10% to the museums, with 65% more children signing up as library members. Pitlochry and Comrie in particular have noted a 9% increase in visitors to their local libraries, with a 5% rise at the Fair City’s AK Bell library.

The trust highlighted the recent Brick City Lego exhibition at Perth Museum and Art Gallery as a major success, with over 13,000 visitors coming through the museum’s doors.

Helen Smout, Culture Perth and Kinross’chief executive, said:“It’s been a busy and exciting first year for Culture Perth and Kinross, and also a fruitful one. We’re delighted that our 2016/17 figures show significant increases in museum and library visits in the region, in the face of changing consumer behaviour and general UK-wide downturn in both.”

Charles Kinnoull, the chair of the Culture PK board, added:“I’d like to thank Culture Perth and Kinross staff for their hard work in delivering on our promise of bringing culture to the region in innovative, exciting ways, and to the stakeholders, donors and members of the public who have supported our efforts.”
