Banafter knifethreats tobarstaff

-

A 37-year-old man has been banned from entering Perth after appearing in court charged with threatening to slash staff at a popular city centre bar with a knife.

Gary Chalmers, formerly of the city’s Glendevon Road, is also accused of refusing to leave The Venue, in St John Street - and making violent threats to licensee Francis Burgerseed.

He will face trial at Perth Sheriff Court on August 11, with an earlier hearing set for July 27.

Chalmers appeared from custody this week to deny refusing to leave the popular hostelry at the end of licensing hours when asked.

He is then said to have violently threatened Mr Burgerseed shouting and swearing at him and making the knife slash threat to other staff there.

Chalmers also denied brandishing a bottle at a staff member and threatening to“put it through his face.”

Further charges of having an offensive weapon, threatening police outside the pub in St John Street and having cocaine in his possession were also denied.

A seventh charge alleges that at Perth police headquarters, he threatened Sgt Gary Lamb.

Chalmers was freed on bail to an address in South Parks Road, Glenrothes.

A special condition was imposed, barring him from entering the city unless it is for a scheduled court appearance or meeting with his lawyer.
