All eyes on our new councillors

Dear Editor

-

I’d like to thank every person in Strathearn who cast their vote for me in the recent local council election.

As you stand at an election count and finally get to see completed ballot papers, it’s the one time you realise just how many people appreciate the effort you’ve put in to making a difference for them and the area.

The most encouraging result from this election is that hundreds of people only voted for the two candidates who are actually involved in local politics myself and Rhona Brock.

Unfortunately, the alphabet dictated that Rhona picked up those ‘ones’ and I picked up the ‘twos’, however, of the three councillors we now have, Rhona Brock is the only one living anywhere near Strathearn, so I’m pleased she was re-elected.

On most of the 4000-plus ballot papers cast, I received a vote, but it’s only the number one votes which matter in terms of being elected.

It’s a shame when people still vote with their political party leniency at local level, despite the candidates being “unknown”, and that needs to change.

Stewart Donaldon (SNP), Rhona Brock (Independent), and Roz McCall (Conservatives) are our new elected and paid Strathearn councillors.

Each councillor will receive around £100,000 over the next five years. Let’s make sure we see them working for every penny. Over the next five years, I’ll cost the tax-payer precisely zero, and I’ll still be out there holding Perth and Kinross Council to account.

If anyone would like assistance with any issues, I can be reached by emailing finlay876@btinternet.com, or calling 07709 347044. Craig Finlay Independent Perth and Kinross election candidate
