Green vests do Perth Runners proud
Perth Road Runners dashed to the capital for the third race in the Club Championship series.
Over 40 Fair City green vests lined up in a field of 480 runners at the Crammond esplanade for the Self Transcendence 5K race.
The route involved a fast, flat out and back course along the banks of the River Forth in blustery conditions.
And it was Michael McConnell who was first club male home with a new personal best time of 16:16, finishing 65th position overall.
Alastair Gudgin was second road runner in 16:42, 90th position overall, with Stuart Robertson following closely behind in 17:01, 112th overall. For the females, Lisa Aikman was first club member across the finish line in 20:20, followed by Sonjia Crow in 20:48 and Gillian Edwards in 22:40.
Several road runners also achieved personal best times including Ronnie Glen breaking the 18 minute mark with a time of 17:59, Gillian Smith ran 23:25, Liz Johnston 25:02, Harriet Shaw 25:51, Stephane Reid 26:21 and Eleanor Paul 27:21.
On home soil, at Perth Parkrun, the popular 5k event at the North Inch welcomed a record turnout of 265 runners.
Mark Dunn was first Perth member across the line and second overall in 18:07, while Lorraine Macpherson was first female road runner finishing in 21:15 and second female overall. Gillian McGuire finished close behind with a new personal best time of 21:22.
There were also impressive new personal bests for Richard Ward in 18:52 , Janette Clark 24:09, Diane White 24:23, Sara Baillie 24:56 and Stephanie Boyd 26:20.
Further afield were Paul Grace and Daile Sipple, who travelled to Oban for the Ganavan Sands Parkrun and finished in 21:57 and 26:38 respectively.
Elsewhere, Stewart Reid was the sole Perth runners in Edinburgh representative running in the first of the Skull mountain race series, a four mile trail race around Balbirnie park, Markinch.
Stewart finished the tough course in third place overall in a time of 29:12.
Rounding off the action were Lorraine Macpherson and Diane White in Kirriemuir for an inaugural 5km Charity Annual fun Run, with Lorraine finishing as first female vet.
The next championship race is the Loch Leven Half marathon on May 13.
On Thursday, May 18 the Hills are Alive series continues at Kinnoull (incorporating the PRR Hill Race).
