Scottish Cup for Meigle
One of the biggest days of the summer in cricket will take place on Sunday.
Clubs around the country will enjoy the various‘David versus Goliath’ clashes that the Citylets Scottish Cup throws up.
East Perthshire’s Meigle Cricket Club host a Scottish Cup tie for the first time in a number of years after a run of away ties.
The opponents are Cricket Scotland Western Union Premiership side Tunnocks Uddingston, who bring up a strong side from Lanarkshire.
Skippered by wicket-keeper/ batsman Bryan Clarke, they are three-time winners of the grand old trophy, in 2003, 2010 and 2011.
The line-up includes a Pakistani professional, an Australian overseas amateur, and ex-Scotland players Ross Lyons and Harmanjit Singh.
Thirty-two-year-old Lyons has a national cap haul of 62, which he last added to in 2010.
His threat is well known at Victory Park as he scored a century for former side East Kilbride against Meigle last season in the National Cup.
Meigle will hope to put in a strong performance and spectators are welcome as entry is free and barbecues and picnics are encouraged. The game starts at noon.
Last week, Meigle warmed up in style with an SPCU North East Championship win against Forfarshire II, amassing an imposing 252 for 7.
