Help Phoenix girls rise to Scotland challenge

Daisy Ross, Ella Docherty, Haylie Todd and Taryn Cummins have all been selected to play for Scotland U15 basketball squad Talented basketball players from Perthshire are hoping to go on tour with the Scotland squad but need to raise cash to make the trip.

Perth Phoenix Girls Daisy Ross, Ella Docherty, Haylie Todd and Taryn Cummins have been selected to be part of the Scotland U15 Basketball Squad for 2017.

All four girls play for Perth Phoenix U16 Girls team - which this season won National League Division 2. The side will be promoted next season to National League Division 1.

A spokespers­on for the group said:“It is a fantastic achievemen­t for the girls. Only three years ago they had five young girls playing and [their success] is due to their dedication and that of their coach Russel Kesson.”

This year the girls are training every weekend in various locations around Scotland with the squad.

Among them is an internatio­nal trip and competitio­n to Barcelona at the end of June.

The spokespers­on continued: “The girls are working hard at the moment trying to raise as much funds as they can to get there from park runs to bake sales.
