Girl(17) found withecstasy

A 17-year-old Perth girl was caught with ecstasy and cannabis after being seen “acting suspiciously”in the grounds of a local primary school.

Perth Sheriff Court was told the teen, who can’t be named for legal reasons, had“fallen in with a bad crowd”.

Police saw her, along with some of her associates, going into the playground at about 7.20pm.

“The accused was standing talking to some of her peers and they appeared to be acting suspiciously,”explained depute fiscal Bill Kermode.

She was detained and searched and a total of two grammes of cannabis and 0.4 grammes of ecstasy were recovered from her pocket.

The drugs were valued at £10 each, the court heard.

The female, who admitted having the substances in her possession at the school on April 15, 2016, had been given the chance to get her life back on track.

Solicitor Pauline Cullerton said that her client didn’t have“the best start”in life.

“She seems to have succumbed to peer pressure. She’s making changes in her life, however, and has changed her peer group.”

After hearing that she had a part-time job and was attending college, Sheriff William Wood agreed last November to defer sentence for six months to prove the incident was a“one-off”.

Following her latest court appearance, Sheriff Wood imposed a Community Payback Order and said he hoped it would serve as a“warning shot” to her.

She will have to complete 40 hours of unpaid work in the next six months and will also be supervised by a social worker during that time.
