Bookbug Week creates buzz about town

A variety of Bookbug events take place this week Young children across Perth and Kinross are falling in love with reading in this year’s Bookbug Week.

The annual celebratio­n of Scotland’s book gifting programme is funded by the Scottish Government and is running all this week in libraries across the region.

The theme for this year is Bookbug’s Big Giggle, to encourage parents and carers to share playful songs and stories to make children and babies laugh.

There are a number of events taking place and special visits from the UK’s best-loved children’s authors and illustrato­rs and free story, song and rhyme sessions. Children in Perth and Kinross can even tune in to the online streaming event, Authors Live with Alex T Smith, at 11am tomorrow. Marc Lambert, Scottish Book Trust’s CEO, said:“Bookbug Week invites every family with young children to take part in the hundreds of free and fun-filled events across Scotland, to celebrate the joy that comes from sharing books and rhymes together.

“This year’s theme highlights how sharing these fun songs and stories can help with children’s confidence, developmen­t, connectivi­ty and over-all well-being.

“Bookbug Week is also the perfect chance to find out more about the Bookbug programme. If you have never been to a Bookbug session, this is a great opportunit­y.”
