Pupils fund efforts set to inspire others
Trust grant support
Pupils Aidan Wallace and Alasdair Peach, with teacher Matt Mackie of Perth High School A pair of Perth High School pupils who won £3000 through a youth and philanthropy initiative scheme were given a follow-up task to boost future groups.
Alasdair Peach and Aidan Wallace, who are both in S3, won the money for charity the St Johnstone Community Trust.
But after winning YPI organisers turned to them for help with learning materials for future YPI efforts.
Alasdair said: “Being able to be further involved with the Youth Philanthropy Initiative was a delight, and I was very honoured that they had chosen Aidan and myself to feature in the national video informing people of what YPI is about and what the experience was like for us.
“Being able to take the film makers and photographers to McDiarmid Park, to see where our charity, which we supported through the YPI process and in turn won £3000 for, is based was a privilege.
“We were able to show a Football Memories Project session running and we were able to convey how much YPI had changed our view on society in an incredibly positive manner.
“YPI really helped to develop the both of us, as individuals as well as with our input on the local community.
“With regards to how the national material turned out, I am very pleased and hope that inspires others across the country to get involved within their school and to actively participate in an amazing opportunity.”
The memories project is aimed at people and loved ones living with dementia.
Football cards showing photographs of players of years gone by and other memorabilia are used to trigger memories.
