We’ve still got points to prove, says Wright

-

St Johnstone are on the verge of breaking their all-time Premiership points total.

The previous best finishing tally stands at 57, recorded in both 1999 and 2015, with Saints currently sitting on 55.

And Perth boss Tommy Wright is determined to finish the season in style, despite already securing fourth and qualifying for the Europa League.

Two games remain this season with fifth-placed Hearts the visitors to McDiarmid tomorrow evening.

“We can’t really take our foot off the gas,”Wright said.“Can we get into 60 points with two wins? That’s what we are going to try and do.

“There will maybe be opportunities to tweak the team but I want to put the strongest team out on merit.”

Wright heaped praise on his players and staff after sealing European football again.

Saturday’s victory against Partick Thistle at McDiarmid Park means that Saints will compete in the Europa League for the fifth time in six years.

Wright said:“I’ll probably not stop grinning for at least a week. I’m just so pleased for the players, fans and my staff.

“It’s been a long and tough season but we’ve proved once again what a good side we are.

“It means a lot to this club. The opportunities to get into Europe, even though we’ve done it quite a bit recently, don’t come along that often.

“They keep responding and producing, and proving the doubters wrong.

“We have good players, people maybe outside of the club don’t realise that. But we have really good players with a great team spirit.”
