Roadworks nightmare for Perthshire drivers

Highland routes hit

- Iain Howie

A triple whammy of traffic trouble is to hit Highland Perthshire from next week.

Motorists are to face potential delays on the A9 and other key routes as various strands of road resurfacing and investigations are carried out.

Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government’s £3billion plans to dual the route by 2025 will see investigations alongside the main carriageway between Killiecrankie and Glen Garry.

Engineers will be looking at rocky outcrops, with teams using ropes.

Works will start on Monday next week, with traffic management required for the first week.

A spokesperson said: “This rock investigation work is needed to get vital information for this stretch of the route, as we progress our plans to dual the road.

“We apologise for any inconvenience these works will cause.”

Perth and Kinross Council road workers are also set to carry out two sets of road resurfacing.

The B846 at the Tummel Bridge junction with the B8019 northwards over Dalno Bridge will be closed to traffic daily from 9am to 4pm from Monday, May 22 for two weeks.

Diversions will be in place via Calvine and Aberfeldy and the road will be open outside the closure hours.

Also, from Monday, June 5 for two weeks, the B8019 westwards from Garry Bridge will be closed daily to traffic from 9am to 4pm, again for resurfacing works.

Diversions will be in place, also via Calvine and Aberfeldy and the road will be open to traffic between 4pm and 9am.

A PKC spokesperson said: “The Council regrets any inconvenience these works may cause. Residents, businesses and elected members have already been advised.” Resurfacing works on the A9 earlier this year at Pitlochry caused long tailbacks
