Architects to view St Paul’s site
Architects interested in converting St Paul’s Church will be visiting the site today.
Perth and Kinross Council is currently looking for a conservation architect for the £2million project to convert the B-listed building on Perth High Street.
The chosen architect will partially demolish and convert the 1807 landmark which has been closed for he past 30 years and is on Scotland’s at-risk register.
The brief asks them to remove the roof, restore the stonework, add new openings at groundlevel to create an open-air courtyard, and transform the spire to be potentially used as a camera obscura.
A PKC spokesperson l said:“A number of parties have already expressed interest in making use of such a space.
“Opportunities have also been identified for architectural and artistic lighting.
“The proposals would not necessarily preclude future full restoration and bringing new uses to the space that is created, proposed development in the vicinity, and day and night animation may help stimulate further required investment to achieve this.”
Perth and Kinross Council purchased the site earlier this year and is part of Perth’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021 status.
The contract bidding deadline is June 7. Church St Paul’s
