Bright future for area
Conservatives to form an administration, despite the fact that it was the voters of Perth and Kinross who elected the largest party.
As the Conservatives were the only party out of the two largest parties to approach me, I worked constructively with them to reach an agreement where, in exchange for my support in allowing them to form the administration, I received written support to assist me in working on the majority of the policies I campaigned on.
This made it a good agreement for my constituents and Perth and Kinross.
I have already stated publicly that I intend to hold the new administration to account and I will not be supporting any budget that does not protect front line services as its priority.
If Cllr Donaldson and his SNP colleagues are serious about working with other “progressive” councillors, it might be advisable to discuss areas of collective agreement where we can work together.
Otherwise this will all look very much like posturing ahead of a close General Election.
I do agree with Cllr Donaldson in part when he says “Quite a lot of the work of a local councillor is non-party political.”
Where I disagree with him is that I feel all the work of a local councillor should be non-party political. So I look forward to working with colleagues of all parties and Independents in the best interests of our wards and the people of Perth and Kinross.
Only by working together can we create a brighter future for Perth and Kinross, that all of our fellow citizens can buy into and feel a part of.
