The committee held a very successful day last Saturday, May 20, with many people from outwith the village attending, and are very grateful to all their supporters and sponsors for their continued help toward this fantastic community fundraising effort. All proceeds will now go towards the upkeep of the Methven King George V Jubilee playing fields, the Den Woodland Walk. The committee will also ensure that funds go to the Methven Community Centre committee, as well to assist with the upkeep of all these precious community assets. Without the hard work put in by a very small group of volunteers, they would most certainly see the demise of one or all of these wonderful, community owned properties. Newburgh

Whinnybank cat sanctuary Sue was back at Perth recycling centre this week – an endless battle with many cats often dumped there. She said that some of the men are big softies – and behind Sue’s back they release the cats from the metal traps, so she has had to return with her heavy duty wooden trap which can be activated from her car. It never fails and she can ‘pick off’ the cats she needs to trap, but this can be very time consuming. Sue has a list of the cats to be trapped – a list that keeps on getting longer. Most of the cats are tabbies, and once a cat has been neutered, its ear is marked before being returned so that she knows which cats have already been treated. Thankfully, Perth council do not quibble about paying for the cost of neutering. However, Sue is in need of donations of golf balls if anyone has any going spare. If you can offer a home to a cat, help at fundraising events, in the shops or at the sanctuary, please call Sue on 01337 840414, or visit www.catchat. org/adoption/fife.html or contact www.whinnybank.org.uk. Bonus Ball There was no winner on this week’s TICC bonus ball drawn on no 16. Abbotsford Care Home A big thank you is extended to everyone who contributed in any way, large or small, to the gardening opening in early May. It was a great success and raised £206 for the residents’ fund. Coffee morning The local Scouts, Cubs and Beavers will hold their coffee morning in the TICC Centre tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am. All welcome. Pigeon Club Newburgh and District Racing Pigeon Club continued their old bird racing from Ripon in North Yorkshire, a flying distance of 180 miles. The race was sponsored by P H Consultants, Strathmiglo. The club winners were G Williams, J Coltart and R Nisbet. J Coltart won the David Boyd memorial trophy, with runnerup G Williams.

Pitlochry Angling Club With the river rising, over 200 salmon have ascended into the ladder over the last 24 hours. The river has now dropped back a little, but with plenty of fish about, the prospects remain good. The ladder count now stands at 1900. Football news The Vale of Atholl FC are sponsored by R W Bell Building Services. With the season now having ended, the club have arranged to have their player of the year dinner in Pitlochry Golf Club on June 16.
