Disruption as rail upgrade continues

-

Rail bosses are reminding travellers to check the scheduling of their journeys before they set off as the next phase of a Scotland-wide rail upgrade programme continues.

Work resumed to improve the reliability of the network across the country on Sunday and the ScotRail Alliance has warned there will be changes to journeys on affected routes after the end of the evening peak period.

Journey times will likely be longer and travellers can expect to see queuing systems in operation at some key stations.

Jacqueline Taggart, ScotRail Alliance customer experience director, commented:“No one likes having their journey changed.

“However, this short term disruption will lead to a more reliable, better rail network that will rank amongst the very best.

“We are going through a massive period of change on Scotland’s railway.

“The work that we are carrying out over the next few months will bring about a revolution in rail – with more and better trains, more services and more seats than ever before.

“However, while we transform the railway, there is inevitably going to be some impact on people’s services.

“We are doing everything we can to minimise this, and to keep people moving.”

The ScotRail Alliance provided a summary of the routes likely to see some disruption which included:

•Glasgow – Alloa / Stirling / Dunblane / Perth - On Sunday to Thursday evenings after 8pm, until Sunday, September 10, trains may be diverted or cancelled. Replacement buses operate when there are no trains running. The last trains of the day heading north may depart earlier than usual.

•Glasgow Queen Street - Dundee / Aberdeen / Inverness - On Sunday to Thursday evenings after 8pm, until Sunday, September 10, services may be diverted via Polmont or cancelled. Replacement buses operate when there are no trains running. The last trains of the day heading north may depart earlier than usual.

Passengers on trains between Perthshire and Central Scotland will face upheaval due to the works over the coming months
