Large Perth turn-out for inaugural Stirling event

The inaugural Stirling Marathon - starting at Blair Drummond Safari Park and finishing in the city centre - welcomed a large squad of Perth Road Runners.

Duncan Ryan was first Perth runner across the line in a time of 3:06:45, followed by Ronnie Glen in 3:10:55, who was taking part in his first race at this distance.

Finishing under the four-hour mark were Grant Key, Gillian McGuire, Derek McIntosh and Ella Webley who clocked 3:31:02, 3:40:57, 3:48:17 and 3:55:26 respective­ly.

Alison McCoist ran 4:06:55, Kenneth G Stewart 4:11:11, Hugh Daly 4:13:06 and Colin Wilcox 4:20:44.

Sara Baillie finished her first marathon in a time of 4:24:24, while Debbie Jackson, who was raising money for the Stroke Associatio­n, finished in 4:47:04.

Derek Swan was home in 4:54:33 closely followed by Pete Ritchie in 4:57:30, with Caroline Ness 5:37:44 and Andrew Gellatly 5:58:19.

Further afield, Kevin Rogers and Gillian Smith were in Denmark for the

Perth members at the Kinnoull Hill Race Copenhagen Marathon. Kevin finished in John Rudd in 4:17:14. Robin Wombill also 497th place with a time of 3:12:01 while completed the marathon. Gillian ran a new personal best time of Gillian Edwards and Kevin Riddell won 3:58:22. first place in the mixed marathon relay

The day before, both had also team, while Linda O’Neill ran a 15-mile leg participat­ed in the Amager Faelled as part of another relay team. Parkrun, Kevin finishing in 19:50 and The busy recent spell for the road Gillian 32:38. runners had earlier started with the

Closer to home club members were in Kinnoull Hill Race - part of the‘Hills are action as the Cape Wrath challenge Alive’club series. concluded with a marathon. Stewart Reid The four-mile loop around the hill finished the hilly course in 3:54:08 and started and finished at Branklyn Gardens. Michael McConnell claimed fourth overall in 27.18.

Stuart Robertson was second club member home and seventh overall in 28:24, while Mark Dunn powered across the line third in 32:16. Claire Douglas was first female Perth runner back in 34:03, followed closely by Sonjia Crow in 34:17 and Lisa Aikman in 35:19.

Elsewhere, at Perth Parkrun, Michael McConnell finished first with a new personal best time of 16:36. Sonjia Crow was first female road runner home and third female overall in a time of 20:45.

There were also personal best times for Dave Sinclair 19:09, Scott Connor 20:21, Roy Mitchell 21:25, Allison Brown 22:57 and Stephane Reid 26:21

Three road runners completed the Edinburgh Parkrun route at Crammond with Paul Grace in 20:51, Laurie Carruthers in 21:50 and Daile Sipple in 25:43.

Rounding off the action were Kevin Kelly and Heledd Rheinallt, who competed in the Goatfell Hill Race on the Isle of Arran. The route comprises of a tough 15.5km out and back course from Brodick to the summit of Goatfell with 870m of ascent. Kevin finished in 1:46:17 and Heledd in 2:06:40.
