Motorists are warned over M90 disruption

-

Concrete sections of the M90 in Kinross-shire are being upgraded in a £670,000 programme of works.

Engineers moved in on Monday this week to upgrade sections of the Edinburgh-bound route between junctions six at Kinross services and eight for the A91.

Work will initially focus on the central reservation before turning to the carriageway and also the southbound slips at junction six.

Transport Scotland says the result will be a“smoother, safer and more resilient stretch of the M90 for motorists”.

Drivers are also being given advance notice of a roadwork period affecting the northbound route between junctions six and seven but these are timed for later in 2017.

Traffic management on the affected stretches will be in place for up to three weeks.

The surface works involve repairing the joints and any damage in each section of the concrete carriageway.

In recent years the key motorway has seen nearly £4m invested in the road surface.

Andy Thomson of BEAR Scotland said:“This next investment from Transport Scotland brings the total invested into repairing the concrete carriageway to over £4,500,000.

“The next round of funding will allow us to fix sections of the southbound stretches of the route, helping to create a smoother road surface which will be safer for motorists.

“We’ve planned this scheme to minimise disruption as much as possible, including taking into account the busy summer period, and have planned the next phase of working on the northbound carriageway to begin later in the year to alleviate impact on summer traffic. Our teams will continue to do all they can to limit the impact of this scheme to road users.”
