Doublewins forDoo’cot

-

It was a hugely successful Saturday for Perth Doo’cot Cricket Club with the 1st and 2nd XI both recording moraleboosting wins away from home.

The 1st XI looked set to chase a massive total as hosts Mannofield made a blistering start, racing to 85 for no wicket in 18 overs.

Rory Pennycook then made a double breakthrough only for the home batsmen to continue to enjoy excellent batting conditions.

They were sitting on 151 for two after 30 overs.

But the experienced Perth trio of Hill, Patterson and Knoesen stuck to their task and wickets fell at regular intervals.

The innings closed on 217 for nine with Jonathan Hill taking 3-28.

In response, the Perth batsmen kept up an excellent run rate of five an over as a key partnership was forged between Curtis Taylor and Emeul Knoesen, who put on 93 in 17 overs before Knoesen was out for 25.

But Taylor was the undoubted star as he raced to his maiden century. When he was out for 105, 35 runs were still needed.

Krishna Mullangi on his debut and Khyamm Sarral remained calm and led Perth to a fantastic win with slightly more than two overs to spare.

Meanwhile, the 2nd XI were up against Dundee High School, who batted first and scored 169 all out.

The fireworks, though, came when Perth batted as Fawad Ali (82) and Paddy Murray (62) raced to an opening stand of 157 and the total was passed with nearly 20 overs to spare - a crushing victory for the Fair City squad.

On what had been a productive weekend, the 1st XI were then soundly beaten by Gordonians on Sunday afternoon.

Perth scored 142 all out in their allotted 40 overs and then a very aggressive attack by the home batsmen saw them race to victory with 19 overs left.

Results: Mannofield 217 for nine (G Tomlinson 68, G Anderson 53, J Hill 3-28) lost to Perth Doo’cot 218 for six (C Taylor 105) by four wickets.

Dundee High School XI 169 all out lost to Perth Doo’cot XI 170 for two (F Ali 82, P Murray 62) by eight wickets.

Perth Doo’cot 142 all out (E Knoesen 29, C Taylor 28, T Brown 25) lost to Gordonians 144 for one (H Arshad 56no, S Devadas 53no) by nine wickets.
