A Perthshire resident has marked 100 years young at a special celebration onWednesday.

Miss Jessie Bryce, resident at Kincarrathie House in Perth marked the milestone with staff and friends.

And to mark her special day she was presented with a birthday cake and flowers by care home manager Maggie Kay.

Formerly from Dundee, Miss Bryce spend her childhood and adult years in the Dudhope area of the city spending many memorable school holidays with relatives in her beloved second city of Perth.

A skilled seamstress Jessie spent most of her working life in the retail trade in several of the city’s fine but long-gone department stores such as Draffen’s, G L Wilson and D M Brown’s where her knowledge of tailoring and embroidery were in constant demand. At the outbreak

Jessie Bryce of the Second World War she was called up to do her bit.

The 22-year-old found herself working in the Riverside locomotive workshops in the marshalling yards at Tay Bridge station replacing brake shoes on the huge steam engines of the day before returning at the end of the war to the profession she so loved until her retirement in 1977.

Fond memories of the Fair City prompted Miss Bryce to make the decision to return to Perth 11 years ago.

Jessie wishes to thank management and staff at Kincarrathie House for their kindness and for making her special day one to remember.
