Fast race times in the summer sun

Perth Road Runners took advantage of the sunshine to post fast times in the first event of the summer series.

Green vests travelled to Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy for the Create and Prosper 5K race, which witnessed Stuart Robertson secure fifth overall in 17:52.

He was followed by Stuart Fraser in 18:33, Ronnie Glen 18:47, Kevin Rogers 19:10 and Simon Grieshaber in 20:06.

Lorraine MacPherson was first female road runner finishing in a time of 21:23 with Gillian Edwards next back in 22:37, Gillian Smith in 23:56, Natalie King 25:16 and Tessa Ward 25:47.

On home soil, Robertson kept up his form to cross the line first in 17:39 at Perth Parkrun with Kevin Riddell close behind in second overall in a time of 18:11. MacPherson, again, was first female club member in 22:07 followed closely by Caroline Jones in 22:34. Tessa Ward also reached her milestone 50th parkrun.

Enjoying a spot of parkrun tourism were Laurie Carruthers, running at Nonsuch and clocking 23:11, Debbie Jackson finishing Linwood in 24:23 and Marlena Nowaczyk finishing first female at Bydgoszcz Parkrun in Poland in a time of 21:24.

Also on Saturday, Pete Ritchie finished the Langholm Half Marathon. In extremely hot conditions he defeated the mostly off road route in 3:14:00.

Richard Hughes, meanwhile, was the sole Fair City representa­tive at the men’s 10K road race in Glasgow, finishing in 44:41.

The city centre route began at the Riverside museum, passing the Hydro and Glasgow Green, before finishing in George Square.

Elsewhere, three green vests travelled to Glenrothes for the 10K race. In hot conditions, Duncan Ryan finished 15th overall in 37:47 with Simon Grieshaber in 43:02 and Sandra Taylor 48:19.

Further afield, Paul Grace and Daile Sipple completed the Lamoille Canyon Half Marathon in Nevada, USA. Daile gained a new personal best by knocking five minutes off her previous best, also finishing first in her age category, F50.

Paul, despite carrying a slight calf injury, finished ninth overall and first in his age M50 category.

Tuesday evening is the usual club night, meeting at Bell’s Sports Centre for a 6.30pm start.

Thursday, June 29 sees the second of the summer series race take place with the Milnathort Dash.
