National Finals

Perth Doo’cot’s under-13 team have been in the spotlight this week after qualifying for National Finals Day for the first time in the club’s short existence.

After dispatching of Arbroath, the Perth youngsters were again drawn to play away from home, this time against Forfarshire.

With Doo’cot batting first, four players retired on 30 not out - Alex Turlik, Ian Chalmers, Daniel Patterson and Oliver Patterson. The Perth innings finished on a massive 163-2.

In reply, Forfarshire could only manage 63 all out with Alexander Ewen taking three wickets. It leaves Perth in the last four of the national competition.

Team manager Ivor Patterson was thrilled with the win and the performance, saying:“I am absolutely delighted for the boys and all my fellow coaches at the club.

“This is the first time in the club’s history that we will take part in Finals Day and while we are looking to enjoy the day, we also have a great chance to make the final if the draw is kind to us.

“It’s likely we’d then face an extremely tough match against Grange who are reigning champions and have the pick of the best young boys in Edinburgh.

“But we will only improve if we challenge the top teams.”

A bus has already been booked for players and supporters and everyone is looking forward to a successful day.

Meanwhile, the senior sides also enjoyed success at the weekend with the 1st XI inflicting a first defeat of the season on league leaders Stoneywood Dyce.

Batting first, Perth amassed 181 for nine on a wicket that was giving bowlers encouragement.

Some late Stoneywood hitting saw them reach 144 before Stephen Boyd took the last wicket to seal a huge win.

There was a tight battle for the 2nd XI who triumphed against St Modans by two runs in what was a tense finish.

The home side’s 194-8 was built around a maiden century for 18-yearold Musakhar Rehman who finished exactly 100 not out.

This weekend, the 1st XI make the short trip to Meigle, who sit just behind the Perth team in the league table.

The 2nd XI host Division One leaders Stoneywood Dyce 2nd XI.

On Sunday, the focus will be on the club’s annual Social Sixes. This has developed into the main social event of the year and another great day is expected.

There will be a BBQ, bar and bake-off competition as well as cricket of varying skill levels.

Anyone wishing to come along and spectate and find out more about the club and Doo’cot Park will be made most welcome. Play starts at noon.
