Man caused A&E fracas

-

night Perth High pupils at their prom A drunken Perth man caused uproar after he was taken by ambulance to PRI with a cut hand.

Boozed-up Jason King initially became uncooperative with paramedics and they requested assistance from police when they got to the hospital.

On arrival at A&E, however, he “immediately became aggressive” towards staff, Perth Sheriff Court was told.

He refused to listen to their instructions and unleashed a volley of foul-mouthed abuse.

He initially calmed down when told by a staff nurse he wouldn’t be treated and would be removed from the building.

But the mayhem continued when he returned from the toilet and he again subjected staff nurses and other medical staff to unacceptable behaviour.

Depute fiscal Lisa Marshall said: “He repeatedly ignored requests to lower his voice because there were other patients.

“When police warned him to settle down, he squared up to them in a confrontational manner.”

He was then arrested but as officers awaited the arrival of a police van, he attacked PC Jill Gilchrist and tried to head butt her.

“He was restrained on the ground and handcuffs were applied,” added the fiscal.

His tirade continued at Perth police headquarters and he wasn’t cautioned and charged until the following morning at 7.15.

The 20-year-old, of Newhouse Road, will be sentenced on July 26 after a background report has been prepared.

He admitted repeatedly shouting and swearing and making violent threats at PRI and police HQ on August 6 last year.

He also admitted the assault on the police officer at the hospital.

The depute fiscal said the accused had been at a party in a Perth flat but became heavily intoxicated.

He was asked to leave, which he did, but cut his hand and an ambulance was called.

Sheriff William Wood said he wanted more information before passing sentence.

“This was a serious offence where you were disrupting the safe operation of the hospital.

“You also took up police resourced and became aggressive towards officers.”
