Bands will help support charity with gig

Fair City groups True Gents and The Purple Felts are playing as part of Uprise, which takes place at 44 Bar and Late Lounge on Atholl Street – formally The Corinna – from 8.30pm-1.30pm.
Entry is £7 on a night which will also see DJ sets by Chad Rekkit, Jack and Victor and Ben Hur.
Proceeds on the night will be donated to support the Philippines community of Mindoro via the Mother-Tree Foundation.
The independent group works to support tribal people and backs fundraising events that advocate cultural preservation, schooling and child sponsorship as part of a drive to maintain ancestral land rights and resist the legacy of colonial rule.
Grant McCormick is promoting the event locally and explained to the PA cash from the benefit gig would specifically be used to help a beach vendor he encountered on holiday hoping to become a mobile courier in order to provide a better life for his family.
“It’ll be an eclectic night, there’s an interesting mix of music on the bill from all sorts of different genres which will appeal to people of all tastes,” he said.
“This sort of thing doesn’t really happen in Perth. It’s something different and for a good cause, so we’re hoping for a good turnout and a great night.
“All of the bands and DJs are giving up their time to play free and I’d like to thank them for that.”
Well-travelled Grant added: “I met [beach vendor] Herman in Mindoro three years ago. He is going to get a trike or a motorcycle so he can start a courier business.
“He’s someone who I met, got to know, and is someone I thought we could do something to help him out.”
