Join wildlife watch on River Tay

-

Nature lovers are being invited down to the River Tay to get a close up view of the river’s birds and wildlife.

RSPB Scotland are hosting a day of wildlife watching in the Firth of Tay at Broughty Castle and Museum in Broughty Ferry on Saturday, July 8, including using telescopes and binoculars to learn more about the river’s wildlife.

The team behind the wildlife day are also hoping a highlight will be spotting bottlenose dolphins feeding on salmon and sea trout in the river.

Lauren Shannon, RSPB Scotland’s community engagement officer, said: “The Tay is home to lots of wildlife and is an internationally important site for birds.

“We’ll be hoping to see a variety of species including eiders with their ducklings and gannets out at sea. We’ll also be on the look-out for marine mammals such as seals and dolphins, and what better spot to watch from than the grounds of the historic Broughty Castle!”

The day will also include indoor activities at the castle’s musuem. Michael Sedakat, the museum’s curator of botany and zoology, said: “Summer is an excellent time to see wildlife along the Firth of Tay. Visitors can also come and discover more about the wildlife that’s out there with hands of specimens inside the museum.”

The Tay Wildlife Watch will run from 11am till 3pm in the castle’s grounds. For more information contact RSPB’s Tayside office on 01738 630783.
