Abernethy back to the past

-

Abernethy was bustling with history tours, digs and stone carving when the museum hosted a Wee Big Dig Weekend, put on to celebrate its important ancient story with various family-friendly events.

There was a community archaeological dig at drop-in test pits in the village last Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday a group of medieval knights and foot soldiers led by Gavin Adams thrilled the adults and children alike.

Gary Knight of History and Horror Tours gave quite scary talks at the museum on crime and punishment with stocks on hand for anyone who acted up.

Computer wizards from Virtual Worlds in St Andrews took people back to how Abernethy would have looked like in the 11th century, when the Culdees Monastery existed, thanks to a digital recreations.

Also on Sunday award-winning sculptor Sushiela Jamieson helped visitors to create carved stones outside the Museum of Abernethy.

Organiser Lesley Robinson said: “The weekend, co-ordinated by the Tayside Landscape Partnership and the museum, was a huge success.

“Thanks to all who helped and those who took part in our special activities.”
