Half a century in same office Retiringafter47years

- Melanie Bonn

Geraldine Caven Retirement has come for a long-serving employee with a Perth-based estate agent.

After nearly half a century working with Bell Ingram, Geraldine Caven has reached the end of a 47-year career with the firm.

Perth-born Geraldine went to Bell Ingram, then known as HJ Bell and Co, in 1970 fresh from school.

She worked her way up through the company, progressing to audio typist then to assistant receptionist.

After two years on reception Geraldine found her long-term role when she went to work in the accounts department.

She progressed to supervisor and finally to her current role as senior accounts assistant to finance partner Gordon Thoms.

“A definite highlight was when Bell Ingram celebrated its centenary in 1999,” said Geraldine.

“It was such an achievement for the company and I’m very proud to be a part of its growth.”

She said adapting to technology has been vital: “When I first started at the office I learned how to use a manual typewriter and not long after that it was replaced by a computer.

“Now all of our accounts are on laptops.

“With each technological change I have had to learn and adapt, which has been challenging but fun.”

She added: “I’m extremely proud of where I’ve got to since starting back in 1970 and I’m very grateful to Bell Ingram for allowing me to progress so far.

“I’ll miss everyone but will definitely be keeping in touch with all the lovely people I have worked with over the years.”

Geraldine’s retirement is likely to involve gardening and catching up with old school friends.
