Fortnight of Comrie fun

-

Despite a few showers Comrie Fortnight’s opening day as busy as ever on Saturday.

New chairman Ewen Stewart introduced himself to the large crowd at the opening ceremony before visitors enjoyed a street market where local organisations set out their fundraising stalls and the afternoon was rounded off with people gathering on Dalginross Bridge and the riverbank for the duck race.

The raising of the Comrie Fortnight flag the night before heralded the beginning of another two weeks of fun.

Local man Alan Davidson was asked to unfurl the red standard, watched by the committee and members of his family in the quiet pre-Fortnight tradition in the White Church Graveyard.

And it was local lady Mairi Philp who was selected to declare the 48th Comrie Fortnight officially open on the Saturday. Chairman Ewen Stewart, Mairi Philp and Lesley and Graham McWilliams Alan Davidson raises the flag on the Comrie Fortnight, alongside children Carrie and Adam and wife Liz
