A major piece of artwork has gone on show in Crieff.

The world-famous Diaspora Tapestry, a vast piece consisting of 329 panels, is on display in Morrison’s Academy’s Games Hall until August 12 – from 10am to 4pm daily.

And on Saturday this week there is a special day to tie the tapestry with the Crieff Remembers events.

June McEwan, of Crieff Arts Festival, has secured the artwork, which has just returned from a world tour.

The Scottish Diaspora chronicles the impact the Scots have had throughout the world, depicting the nation’s achievements across the globe.

The unique international community artwork began in Scotland in 2014 with 150 panels but has more than doubled in size during its world tour.

The tapestry, which is constantly evolving, currently features 39 countries.

It recently hit the headlines when it was on show in St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh where a panel from the Netherlands was stolen. June said: “It is so wonderful to get the Diaspora Tapestry.

“It is of national significance to Scotland.

“For Crieff to get the entire tapestry is a real

coup and we are really proud to be displaying it.”

The community artist added: “It represents Scottish people who migrated to other countries, from the Clearances to the present day, who became famous after they emigrated.

“For such a small country we have had a big impact on the rest of the world. I’m very excited and can’t wait to see it.

“As I’ve been going around town people have been stopping me and saying that they are looking forward to seeing it as well and I hope as The full tapestry
