Murray magic for kids

Judy serves up classic Fair City visit

- Johnathon Menzies

Fair City youngsters were delighted to be served-up a tennis masterclass from top coach Judy Murray.

The former British Fed Cup captain – mum to Wimbledon champions Andy and Jamie Murray – visited Perth Tennis Club on Friday last week to coach a skills session and promote an upcoming exhibition match.

Fans of the sport are being given the chance to partner world No.1 Andy in a game of doubles against the tennis ace’s mum and brother at Andy Murray Live, to be held at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on November 7.

Launching the #TeamUp campaign at the Hay Street courts, Judy said: “I’m thrilled that Andy Murray Live is returning to Glasgow this year.

“I’m hugely passionate about growing the game north of the border and it’s great to see SSE giving Scottish tennis fans lots of ways to get involved.

“The #TeamUp campaign is unique – it’s not every day you get the chance to partner up with a double Wimbledon champion.”

Judy went on to joke: “I’ll be on the other side of the net with Jamie so, whoever the lucky winner is, they’ll have to be on top of their game. It should be a lot of fun.”

Colin Banks, head of sponsorship and reward at SSE, said: “As the energy behind Andy Murray Live for a second year, SSE are delighted to offer tennis fans a real money-can’t-buy experience through our #TeamUp campaign.

“To have the chance to partner Andy in a game of doubles is incredible, not to mention facing Judy and Jamie Murray – a double Wimbledon champion in his own right.”

As part of Friday’s visit, Judy also dropped in to the utility firm’s Perth office with the aim of encouraging staff to pick up a racquet and answered questions.

The SSE #TeamUp tour will also visit Inverness in August and Glasgow in September.

Fans can enter for the chance to partner Dunblane’s finest by uploading a tennis skills video to SSE’s facebook or twitter pages, accompanied by the following message: “@YourSSE I’m ready to #TeamUp with the Murrays for #AMLive17”

To qualify, entrants must play keepie-uppie with a tennis ball and racquet – or anything suitable they find around the house – for 10 seconds.

One winner will enjoy a doubles match with the Murrays and will also receive passes to a hospitality lunch including a Q&A with the players, as well as tickets for the sold-out Andy Murray Live exhibition.
