Busy weekend for Swifts

-

Jeanfield Swifts were in friendly action against Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Saturday at the Riverside Stadium.

Rob Roy play in the West Regions Super Premier League and in what was an entertaining encounter, they won by the only goal of the game.

Kevin Watt took advantage of a poor clearance from the Swifts defence and cracked the ball past keeper Mark Mitchell from around 15 yards.

The goal after 15 minutes was enough to win the game, although Swifts came close to snatching an equaliser in the final minute of the match when Daniel Kelly evaded defenders’ challenges only to have his close-range shot blocked by the keeper and cleared.

Swifts returned to action on Sunday with a testimonial game for long serving-player Tony Holt.

Swifts hosted a St Johnstone youth side, and Swifts included quite a number of former players in their squad and who all played at one stage of the game.

Swifts took the lead midway through the first half with testmonial star Holt opening the scoring on a memorable day. By half-time, Swifts had moved into a 3-2 lead with goals from Mark Caldow and Chris Dodds. Danny Jardine and Jamie Docherty were on the scoresheet for Saints.

Just five minutes into the second half and the young Saints side had already swept into a 4-3 lead with goals from Ali McCann and Shaun Struthers.

Tony Holt took himself off in 75 minutes to quite an ovation.

Cameron Ballantyne made it 5-3 for this very smart young Saints team.
