Sheriffseeks reportsfor ex-SASman

-

A former Black Watch and SAS soldier faces the prospect of a jail sentence after admitting his third drink/driving conviction in the past six years.

Lindsay Rodger (35), of Glentilt Terrace, Perth, was caught with excess alcohol near his home in May.

His reading was 39 microgrammes, almost double the legal limit of 22.

He was fined £500 and banned for two years in February, 2011, and was then put off the road and had a Community Payback Order imposed - a direct alternative to prison - in October, 2014, for similar offences.

He admitted at Perth Sheriff Court that he again drove with more than the permitted amount of alcohol on Perth’s Glenearn Road on May 12 this year.

Imposing an interim ban, the sheriff told him: “Because this is the third time since 2011 you have committed an offence of this nature, I am adjourning for reports because I am seriously considering sending you to prison.

“I can’t do that until I have more information regarding your background.”

The sheriff called for a Community Justice Social Work report, as well as a Restriction of Liberty Order assessment.

Both these options are an alternative to a spell behind bars.

With some hesitation, the sheriff agreed to continue Rodger’s bail.

But he told him: “You may consider it in your interests to get your affairs in order.”

The background to the latest incident will be given when he returns for sentence on August 23.
