Developer drops Tulloch flats bid during public consultation

- Paul Cargill

Developers have decided to temporarily drop plans to build more than two dozen new flats in Perth’s Tulloch area which attracted 15 objections during a public consultation.

St Madoes-based housebuilder GS Brown Construction wrote to city planners requesting its application to build 27 flats close to Allison Crescent be withdrawn.

The application had come under fire from residents for several reasons, with some saying the proposed blocks would overlook their properties, others saying the blocks would look out of place and some suggesting existing traffic problems would be exacerbated.

One objector said the latest application appeared to be a “rehash” of another application which was lodged 10 years ago by Taylor Wimpey and was rejected.

““These flats are not in keeping with the local area,” he continued. “The rest of the area consists of detached and semi-detached houses.

“Architecturally, these buildings don’t even tone in with the existing developments.

“Additionally, the application contains too many properties for this site, which in turn will generate too much traffic.

“Due to the diabolical parking at the bottom of Allison Crescent the road here is effectively singletrack and there is already too much traffic using this road, a situation recently compounded by the erection of the new flats on Allison Crescent.”
