Gunnion praises Jeanfield’s character

-

Ross Gunnion praised his side’s character after they came from behind twice to earn a point at Broxburn on Saturday.

The Jeanfield Swifts manager took plenty of positives away from the 2-2 draw in the Super League curtain-raiser.

Summer signing Rhys Davies opened his Swifts account before midfielder Chris Scott scored a dramatic late leveller in stoppage time.

“Overall I was pleased with the performance,”Gunnion said.“I think we were the better team on the day but to take a point away at a very difficult venue is definitely a positive start.

“The attitude was excellent from the outset. Four of our six summer signings started the game and all slotted in and performed very well.

“Broxburn have a very settled squad packed full of quality so to hit the ground running and be competitive from the outset is testament to the hard work done in pre-season by the players and coaches.

“And the determination to bounce back from two set backs and going behind twice was extremely pleasing.

“Broxburn are one of the teams we identified at the start of this season as a good marker of our progress as they are an established mid-table team.

Luncarty’s Kieran Donald came back to haunt his old club at the weekend.

The midfielder netted the only goal of the game in the 60th minute to secure three points against Perthshire rivals Kinnoull.

Both teams battled well throughout in what proved to be a competitive game of football but Donald’s back post effort sealed the deal.

Scone Thistle opened up their North Division campaign with a defeat against East Craigie - despite taking the lead.

The Jags had goalkeeper Josh Gorton to thank in the the back of the net.

Coupar Angus had an afternoon to forget on Saturday as they were downed 6-1 away to Lochee Harp.

Early signs were promising for the Foxhall Park side, especially when Ross Nicholson gave them the lead in the 17th minute.

But it was all downhill from there for Logan McConachie’s men with the Dundee squad scoring three before the break.

They would add another three in the second half to leave Coupar disappointed with their opening to the season.

Blairgowrie made a promising start in the North Division by thrashing Brechin Vics 5-0.

Darren Neave netted twice for the Davie Park men while Stefan Brown, Ian Plenderleith and Gary Axworthy were also on the scoresheet.
