Bookshop dedicates room to retiring railwayman who helped establish it
Pitlochry Station Bookshop has dedicated a room to a retiring railway man who helped get the volunteer-run fundraising store open.
Volunteers from Pitlochry Station Bookshop have marked the occasion of the retiral of John Yellowlees, by naming an area of the bookshop on the station platform “The John Yellowlees Room.”
John was or many years head of external relations at Scotrail, and his post which included responsibility for Scotrail’s“Adopt a Station”policy.
The room in the bookshop has recently been refurbished with the financial support of the Highland Main Line Community Rail Partnership.
Mr Yellowlees opened it, recalling the Bookshop’s early days as a box of books in the station waiting room.
“We could not have foreseen its great success,”he said.
“It has raised more than £200,000 for charity and become a destination in its own right. It truly has put Pitlochry Station at the heart of its community.”
Bobbie McGraw, bookshop manager, said:“John’s continued help and encouragement have been central to our success. We shall miss him and we wish him an enjoyable retirement.” John Yellowlees (centre) with members of Pitlochry Station Bookshop committee and the Highland Mainline Community Rail Project
