Animal magic and much, much more

Alpacas, owls and some friendly pygmy goats

- Staff reporter

Kinross Show takes place on Saturday at RSPB Loch Leven.

Being the last Saturday before children go back to school, it’s a fantastic opportunity to see farm animals up close.

Kids entry is free with an accompanying adult and the free bus runs all day from Kinross Park and Ride and local bus stops.

President Andy Marshall commented: “Judging for the cattle, sheep, goats and horses commences sharp, but the livestock are on show all day, making it an ideal opportunity for families to see farm animals looking their best.”

Taking to the air from the main ring at 12.40pm and again at 3pm will be Elite Falconry with a display of natural flying from an owl, hawk, falcon and eagle with amusing commentary and a chance for some of the audience to take part.

Farmer Dawes is bringing his two alpacas, named Nimbus and Mac, for their first-ever visit to the show.

The children’s education marquee is where to find the alpacas.

In this area there will be sheep shearing throughout the day and a chance to see the wool being spun before it becomes a pair of socks or woolly jumper.

Also in the tent will be the pygmy goats and a potato trail. The activities on offer include potato peeling and seed planting and kids can enter a scavenger hunt.

The arts and crafts marquee opens at 9am and is a great place to pick up a gift for someone special or just a homemade treat for yourself.

If you wish to participate in the stock judging competition register at the Young Farmers’ tent before noon. Canine companions can be entered into the dog show 10.30-12.30pm.
