Characters from Willy’s Wonky float Comrie was buzzing on Saturday for the 48th annual Grand Float Parade.

Visitors and residents lined the streets to witness a superb spectacle of creativity.

Comrie was in carnival mode as the parade, led by Comrie Pipe Band, made its way through the village.

A huge effort had gone into every float and costume, with lots of detail to be discovered as people perused the vehicles as they lined up in Dalginross ahead of setting off. Music and dancing atop the floats all added to the atmosphere. Comrie Medical Centre performed songs from Les Miserables all the way to Laggan Park for the prize-giving ceremony, staying in character throughout the procession.

And there were a few tears shed during the awards when the new Bett McCrae Cup for the Best Children’s Float was presented.

Unknown to judges at the time, those on the Swan Loch float featured members of the late Mrs McCrae’s family – including her granddaughter and great granddaughters – who were delighted to receive the cup.

The trophy for Grand Float Parade Overall Winner was awarded to Les Miserables and an afternoon of fun followed, with performances from KG Dance and Riders of the Storm, races, tug o’ war and tossing the sheaf competitions.

The carnival continued into the evening with a party in the marquee with live band The Casuals and Snapped Dragon Disco • Planning a community event? Email news@ perthshireadvertiser.co.uk
